Volunteering at BOS

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Baltimore Outreach Services. As you can imagine, we receive numerous requests from generous individuals wanting to help during the holiday season. As a small organization, we do not have many on-site volunteer positions available.

Currently, our greatest need is for individuals and/or businesses to "adopt" families in our emergency shelter and Outreach Program for Christmas. This year, we are compiling wish lists from 75 families in our emergency shelter and otureach program. Beginning on November 27th, we will have a Christmas tree filled with gift requests from our clients. The tree will be located in the coffee hour room at Christ Church. Each ornament will have the name and age of the client with several items from each person's wish list. The gifts should be returned to the church by December 4th in a gift bag (unwrapped) with the ornament securely attached. The women and children in the Outreach program of prior shelter residents will receive their gifts on December 18th at the Outreach Christmas party.  On Christmas Eve after the final service, we place gift bags for the residents of the shelter under the Christmas tree in the shelter so all of the residents awaken to a tree full of gifts on Christmas morning.

If you cannot adopt an entire family, but would like to contribute toys and gifts, these are the most popular items requested this year. These gifts should be unwrapped and delivered to Christ Church by December 4th:

For Kids

  • Learning toys for pre-school and elementary age children
  • Elmo or Dora toys
  • African American doll hairstyling heads
  • Also if you have an electric guitar, Playstation or Xbox game system that your children no longer use, we have many requests for these.

For Moms

  • Things to set up a home: towels, eating utensils, dishes, pots, pans, twin/full sheet sets and blankets
  • Winter scarfs, hat and glove sets
  • Lotion and body spray
  • Shirts, especially large, x-large and 2x
  • Jeans size 10-18 women's
  • Coats and underwear in all sizes

If you would like to volunteer to "adopt a family" or donate toys or gifts please contact Karen Adkins at adkins@christinnerharbor.org as soon as possible. Thank you again for your generosity.
